A system that grants access from what was sold (the onk.style
entitlement controller) needs a stable key per product variant, not a
product name. The code lives on product.product because a plan is a
variant ("Photo 100" and "Photo 200" of "Photo"), and on single-variant
templates it is edited on the template, exactly like default_code.

Unique, and never copied: duplicating a product that grants something
would otherwise produce a second product claiming the same entitlement.
Copying a variant always goes through its template, so the guarantee
that matters is the template's; the test duplicates a template.
